Owldo — Feature

Complete data ownership.
Backed up locally.

In a world where our most important thoughts, projects, and tasks are stored digitally, having complete ownership of your data is more critical than ever. We believe your notes belong to you. That's why we built Vault Backup—a robust, local-first mirror of your entire workspace.

Seamless and Automatic

We designed Vault Backup to be entirely frictionless. Once you pick a local folder, Owldo takes care of the rest. Turn on Automatic backup, and Owldo will quietly push changes to your designated folder as you type. Our intelligent, idempotent sync engine ensures that only new or modified items are written to your disk.

Future-Proof Portability

Unlike proprietary cloud backups that lock your data into a specific ecosystem, Owldo's Vault Backup exports your data in universal formats. Notes are saved as standard Markdown files (`.md`), tasks as JSON files, and images are extracted as native files (`.png`, `.jpg`).

Tip: Because your notes are saved as standard Markdown files, you can open them in virtually any text editor. Your data is never trapped in a walled garden!

Complete Data Hygiene

If you delete a note or task in Owldo, Vault Backup will automatically prune it from your local folder. Your backup folder always remains a pristine, exact 1:1 replica of your active workspace—no stale data left behind.

Build Your Own Workflows

Developers and power users can point scripts, static site generators, or local LLMs directly at the Vault directory. Since the data is continually updated in plaintext, integrating Owldo with your bespoke productivity pipeline has never been easier.
