Our Philosophy
Capture fast. Organize later.
The human brain is incredibly good at generating ideas, but terrible at storing them. When a thought arrives—a bug fix, a blog post idea, a grocery item—it has a half-life. If you don't write it down within seconds, it degrades or disappears.
Most productivity software fails because the barrier to entry is too high. If you have to open an app, wait for a loading spinner, navigate to a specific workspace, choose a database template, and assign five metadata tags just to write down a sentence, you will simply stop writing things down.
What it means
Capture Fast means treating your inbox like an unformatted scratchpad. It means prioritizing the speed of data entry above all else. In Owldo, there is no required structure when you first have an idea.
You hit a global hotkey, dump the raw text, and get back to what you were doing. The software should act as an invisible extension of your mind, not a bureaucratic form you have to fill out.
Why it matters
Friction is the enemy of momentum. We call the alternative "Productive Procrastination." When a tool forces you to build the architecture before you capture the thought, you spend your cognitive energy on the architecture.
By delaying the organization phase, you preserve your flow state. The goal is to get the thought out of your working memory (RAM) and onto the hard drive (ROM) as quickly as computationally possible, reducing your mental load.
How Owldo does it
First, Owldo is built on a local-first SQLite database. This means there is literally zero network latency when opening the app. There is no white screen; it is instant.
Second, we built a dedicated Inbox that acts as a catch-all. You do not need to assign a Space, a due date, or a tag to capture a note. You just type. Later, during your daily review, you can process that messy inbox, turning raw thoughts into structured project notes and actionable tasks with due dates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why not organize while I capture?
Because organizing requires a different mode of thinking (analytical) than capturing (creative). Mixing them slows you down and interrupts your flow state.
Does Owldo have a global capture hotkey?
Yes, Owldo supports global keyboard shortcuts allowing you to pull up the capture window instantly from anywhere on your OS.
