Local-first, not cloud-first
Most notes apps ship your writing to their servers the instant you type. Owldo flips that: the local copy is the real one, and sync is a transport layer you opt into. Faster app, and your data stays under your control.
Private even when it syncs
Local-first keeps notes off other people’s servers — but you probably still want them on your phone and laptop. Owldo’s optional end-to-end encryption encrypts each note on your device before sync, so the version that travels is unreadable to us, to your sync provider, and to anyone in between. Only your devices hold the key.
Notes you deliberately publish are the exception, by design — those become public pages. Everything else stays sealed.
No lock-in
A private app you cannot leave is not really private. Owldo bulk-exports every note in one action and backs up your whole vault, so your data is portable, not trapped.

Where are my notes stored?
On your device first, in a local database. Sync to other devices is optional and only happens when you enable it.
Is Owldo end-to-end encrypted?
Yes — end-to-end encryption is built in and optional. Turn it on and each note is encrypted on your device before it syncs, so nobody but you can read it. Notes you choose to publish are the deliberate exception.
Can I use Owldo without an account?
Yes. Local notes work with no sign-up at all. You only create an account if you want sync or publishing.
Can I export my notes?
Yes. You can bulk-export every note and back up your entire vault at any time.
